How It WorksA ScholarShare® College Savings Plan Account is opened on behalf of a designated beneficiary. The plan offers federal income and California state income tax-free treatment for qualified distributions. A qualified distribution is one that is used to pay for qualified higher education expenses, including tuition, books, etc. at most accredited two- and four-year colleges and universities and vocational-technical schools nationwide, and eligible foreign institutions. You can open an account with as little as $15, if you establish an automatic investment plan with $15 a month (or $45 a quarter).

Neither the principal deposited nor the investment return is guaranteed by the State of California, ScholarShare Investment Board, Fidelity Investments or any affiliate thereof, or the federal government or any agency thereof. Periodic investment plans do not guarantee a profit or protect against a loss in a declining market. If you or the designated beneficiary are not a resident of the state of California, you may want to consider, before investing, whether your or the beneficiary's home state offers its residents a plan with alternate state tax advantages or other benefits. Units of the Portfolios are municipal securities and may be subject to market volatility and fluctuation. PDFs require Adobe® Reader®. Please carefully consider each Plan's investment objectives, risks, charges, and expenses before investing.
